Legends of Lauria

Session 3 Notes (Players)
  • The party convinces the last guardsman to comply with them. They go upstairs.
  • Investigate a door. Diadara Eldric is inside. Turns out she kidnapped herself to get away from what she feels is an oppressive life of nobility – having to marry someone and become their noblewoman lady. She wants to be an adventurer! Party tries to convince her to go back home because the forest is dangerous. She hits Rashi with a broom. Hard.
  • Cyssa sets off an acid splash trap in front of one door. Alin and Cyssa enter. They find some stuff (fancy dresses and cheap jewelry). Alin notices the mirror in the room. When he looks at it, he sees " his reflection, but instead of his normal reflection, he sees himself covered in blood all over his body"
  • Party finally convinces Diadara she has to go home, accompanied by them and the two non-dead bodyguards she hired.
  • Party finds a note under the stairs, bc Cyssa got that high perception. Note written by ???? : "The creature is not natural, not a normal beast or man. He must have sent it here. Sent it here to destroy us. My beloved is surely dead now, and I fear I will be next, but I must leave this place or I shall surely perish. If this note finds you, go to Shepshed. Do not go deeper into the forest. Do not search for his tower, you will not find it, nor do you want to."
  • Party is effectively spooped. They decide 2 leave the spoopy house even though they didn't finish exploring it
  • Kaugra notices footprints near the house, like someone came up and investigated. Party follows the trail, with 1 unconscious body guard, 1 unhappy but conscious bodyguard, and 1 runaway noble girl
  • Party notices that the ground is littered with the corpses of insects near where the footprints were. Crunch crunch. Party loses the trail. They continue to head back towards town.
  • Rook tries to teach Diadara some spells. She doesn't seem to pick up on it really. The party also asks her about her family and about her friend Oren. She seems aware of Oren's affections for her, and also disdainful towards her overprotective parents.
  • Return to river bridge. Yet another failed cha check against this guy. Pay that toll again fuckers. Who is this guy??
  • Go back to Balethorn Cooper's house, return his ram's skull and informed him about the necro-farm-animal-omancy. He's super sad about his best farm animal being turned into an animate skeleton. Kaugra finally catches the hints I've been laying down about that gold nose ring being magical. Balethorn lets the party stay in the barn and tells them rook can use his son's room again.
  • In the barn, Cyssa teaches Diadara how to throw a knife. Diadara's pretty good at it. Meanwhile Kaugra gives herself a nose piercing with the absolutely enormous nose ring of protection +1 that I put in the game for her freaking deer to use not her but here we are LOL. Blood. Everywhere.
  • Party returns to town. Drops Diadara off with her parents, who are happy she's alive and basically tell her she's grounded forever until she gets married. Diadara seems to wilt under their gaze, relegating herself to her fate. The party seems to doubt their choice now, hm? Party gets the other half of their money.
  • Rook sends Lincoln to Diadara's window with a note, written by Alin, telling her if she wants to leave her home, she should go east to Taron and find his former mentor. She gives them a nod and lincoln flies back to them.
  • Rook finds a library and looks for a history book. Finds a big heavy hard to read tome. Kaugra goes to The Seedy Bar and literally tries to sterilize her new piercing by dunking her bloodied face into a huge mug of beer. It doesn't feel good.
  • Rook reads her book, and reads about a red dragon who was slain by a famous hero, a paladin of Pelor named Oren and his party. The battle took place just east of Shepshed.

Session 2 Notes (Player Version)
1 November 2016
  • Party decides to press onwards towards the river rather that return to visit Balethorn regarding his missing livestock.
  • The party walks south until they come to the river….and a bridge
  • A man is at the bridge, casually leaning against the structure.
  • Cyssa sneaks forward to get a close look. The man is armed with a crossbow but doesn't seem antagonistic.
  • The party fumbles through attempts to sneak up to, greet, and then gather information from the man. He says his name is Xandryn. He tells them if they want to cross the bridge, they must pay a toll.
  • Mak tells him she will pay him with a song, and he seems to be interested in the deal, being a musician himself (pipes) - until he hears her play. She rolls very low and Xandryn laughs at her.
  • Eventually the party pays both the toll and some gold to hear some information. Xandryn says he saw the girl, accompanied by several men – they crossed his bridge and paid his toll. The party crosses the bridge.
  • Kaugra easily tracks the footprints of the men into the forest across the river, heading to the southwest. The party walks until near sunset, then they make "camp" as it were. Some members of the party (Kaugra and Mak) are more prepared for a night in the woods than others (Rook).
  • In the middle of the night, during Mak's watch, a group of 4 tree/plant creatures attacks the slumbering party, nearly killing Mak with their claws. A combination of axe blows, sword blows, daggers, and a magic missile manage to destroy the trees, which are then used as kindling.
  • The next day Kaugra successfully tracks again, and the party follows the footprints to a house in a clearing.
  • Cyssa goes to investigate the house, followed by Rook and Lincoln, but as they are peering into the house, Alin simply knocks on the front door. He is answer by a suspicious man who gruffly tells him to go away. Alin gets the door slammed in his face.
  • The guards see members of the party peering in the window and react negatively
  • The party considers scaling the building - attempts at grappling hooking the roof are unsuccessful, but Kaugra climbs up the wall easily due to her strength.
  • The party decides it is time for battle. Alin rushes into the building while Mak plays a lullaby and Rook, Cyssa, and Kaugra watch the door from the outside. Alin attempts to incapacitate one of the three men inside, aided by Rook's daze ability. Kaugra shoots arrows and Mak inspires the party through song. Cyssa kills one of the men with her daggers after he came after her. There is some disagreement about the acceptability of killing the men.
  • The party intimidates and persuades the last of the three men to stand down after he sees his comrades fall.
  • The party now has one dead man, one unconscious man, and one unharmed but unarmed man in their custody in the bottom floor of this house, with another floor still above them.

Session 1 Notes (Player version)
25 Oct. 2016
  • Party arrived in Shepshed during the rain, met at the Sleeping Dragon Inn
  • Reserved rooms
  • Met barkeep, who didn't seem friendly towards them or adventurers in general
  • Some party members noticed a person enter the bar discreetly and pin something to the tavern message board. When investigated, the found it was a small square of parchment with a black circle on it.
  • While looking at the board, the noticed a few other posts as well:

    • An older, faded/buried advertisement for bringing trophies of slain goblins/orcs to the capital to get paid for them.
    • A missing person notice for a nobleman's daughter, reward 1000gp. Contact person Warren Eldric.
    • A wanted ad for someone who has been stealing livestock. Contact person Balethorn Cooper.
  •  Mak gets directions to the contact people for the latter 2  ads. The Eldric house is downtown, while Balethorn is a farmer living outside the southern walls.
  • The group goes to the Eldrics. Mak slips through a rought iron fence, Cyssa picks the lock on the fence. They do not find Warren Eldric, but instead his nearly inconsolable wife  and her other four children: Vera, Oliver, Magen, and the infant Oren.
  • The nobleman's wife is convinced her 17 year old daughter Diadara Eldric was kidnapped. Some searching of Diadara's bedroom occurs, but very little was found, there's nothing in her room except girlish toys and decorations, an painting of an elvish building, and an unlocked window. There are no footprints outside the window.
  • The group asks about Diadara's friends. The noblewoman mentions a boy at the magic shop. Mak convinces the noblewoman to give them 500gp of the reward up front to buy supplies. (Dat high charisma yo).
  • Mak and Rook go to the magic shop while Cyssa awkwardly questions the other children, along with Kaugra and Alin. Vera admits that Diadara sneaks out a lot. Magen doesn't know much.
  • At Mortimer's, the magic shop decorated in blue and black stars and yards fabric, Mak and Rook meet Mortimer, the elven shopkeep who seems to care mostly about their money. They also meet a young lad about 18 who claims to be friends with Diadara and is obviously enamored with her. This young fellow is wearing absolutely outlandish robes. The boy seems curious and eager to talk to Rook in particular. He speaks about his love of magic and comes across as a huge dork.
  • The boy admits that he and Diadara often sneak out of town to throw stones at the river and hang out.
  • Mak buys 4 potions of cure light wounds for 500 gp.
  • The group meets up in the streets and then goes to a seedy bar named "The Seedy Bar", who's mascot is a bunch of grain seeds. They look at the job board (making sure Cyssa isn't up there) and after only finding a bunch of craigslist style ads do they talk to the bartender.
  • The bartender is a portly fellow, salt of the earth type. They buy cheap shitty beer and ask him about the black circles. He tells them he's seen the black circle symbols on his job board, but he doesn't know what they mean.
  • The party goes out of town to meet Balethorn Cooper. They cross through the southern gate and they notice that only the southern side of the city is walled off.
  • The walk south through the farm community and eventually find Balethorn. They talk to him and he tells the how angry he is about his missing livestock. He allows him to sleep in his barn overnight, and he even is talked into letting Rook stay in his house, in the room his son used to have before he moved into town.
  • They take turns with watch, but nothing happens in the night except a wolf howl.
  • The next day, Kaugra tracks some footprints near the animal pens, and the party follows them south. When the trail is lost, Rook sends out Lincoln to scout – when he comes back he tells them "Fences".
  • The party goes to where the "fences" are only to find several undead livestock creatures who try to attack the party. The party makes short work of three zombie chickens and an enormous skeleton ram.
  • When they investigate the area, the only things they find are a nose ring on the ram's head and some sort of magical circle on the ground near the chicken coop.
  • Kaugra tries to lift the ram's body, but it's too big. This was a truly impressive animal in life. She ends up taking the skull.

-- adventure ends with the party in a field with makeshift corrals and a bunch of bones and zombie feathers --

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
